Intellectual Capacity & Disability Assessments

What We Offer

At Empowered People & Co, our intellectual capacity assessments are designed to offer clarity around cognitive strengths, support needs, and eligibility for services such as NDIS, educational adjustments, or formal care planning.

We assess individuals across all stages of life, from early childhood through to adulthood, with clinical rigour, emotional sensitivity, and deep respect for the whole person. Cognitive data is only one piece of the story; we ensure that every report reflects lived experience, personal context, and capacity for growth. More than a diagnosis, we explore a deeper understanding of potential.

Who It’s For

This assessment may benefit:

  • Children or adults where intellectual disability is suspected

  • Individuals needing formal evidence for NDIS access or planning

  • People with developmental concerns, delays, or global learning challenges

  • Clients needing cognitive profiles to support education, life skills, or supported decision-making

  • Individuals with complex needs, such as dual diagnoses or histories of trauma and neurodivergence

What It Involves

Our process is thorough, respectful, and tailored to your unique situation. It includes:

  • A clinical interview and full developmental history

  • Standardised cognitive assessment (e.g. WISC-V, WAIS-IV, or Leiter-3)

  • Academic achievement testing (e.g. WIAT-III), where appropriate

  • Adaptive behaviour assessment (e.g. Vineland-3) to explore real-life functioning

  • Functional assessment across settings (e.g. home, school, care environment)

  • Screening for co-occurring conditions (e.g. autism, ADHD, trauma)

  • NDIS-focused reporting, available upon request to support eligibility and planning

What You Receive

  • A clear, strengths-based report that includes cognitive findings, adaptive functioning, and diagnostic impressions

  • Reports that can be tailored for use with:

    • NDIS applications

    • Education planning and ILPs

    • Guardianship or supported decision-making frameworks

    • Therapeutic or medical service providers

  • A follow-up consultation to explain findings, outline next steps, or provide advocacy and systems navigation
